Advice and SAFE Services
Llamau has two advice centres. The JIGSO Project is situated in Barry serving the Vale of Glamorgan and the Housing Options Project (HOP), which serves Cardiff. These offer a range of housing solutions and measures to prevent homelessness occurring. These services have been awarded the Community Legal Service quality mark.
HOP

 

HOP provides an accessible front line service to all 16 - 21 year olds living in Cardiff

HOP is aimed at 16 to 21 year olds who are:

  • Homeless or threatened with homelessness
  • Care leavers
  • Know they will have to leave home shortly

HOP aims to:

  • Give advice benefits and social fund applications
  • Give advice on appeals and reviews
  • Give advice on finding accommodation
  • Help to find emergency accommodation
  • Help with landlord problems, rent arrears etc.
  • Advocate on housing and benefit issues
  • Provide fmaily mediation where appropriate
JIGSO

 

JIGSO provides an accessible front line service to all homeless people in the Vale of Glamorgan

JIGSO is aimed at 16 to 21 year olds who are:

  • Homeless or threatened with homelessness
  • Singles or a couple without children
  • In receipt of benefits or low income

JIGSO aims to:

  • Give advice on housing and homelessness issues
  • Give advice on finding accommodation
  • Provide benefit advice, including housing benefits, community care grants etc.
  • Provide a bond guarantee certificate
  • Provide specialist help to 16/17 year olds and care leavers
  • Provide a Friendly Lodging Scheme
  • Provide resettlement advice
SAFE (Supported housing, Advice, Family mediation, Empowerment)

 

SAFE projects were Llamau's response to changes in homeless legislation.

 

SAFE provides bed spaces with shared, communal facilities.  High levels of support and family mediation.  24 hour staffing with emergency call.

 

SAFE is aimed at 16 and 17 year olds who are homeless.

 

SAFE can:

  • Provide short term accommodation with intensive support
  • Use mediation to sort out problems between young people and their family
  • Help to find the best move on accommodation
  • Give help in accessing benefits, training and education
  • Help with budgeting and cooking
  • Help with emotional issues

Llamau's own prevocational training programme, Learning for Life, is available to young people staying at SAFE houses. This enables the young people to engage in basic skills training, cooking, discussion groups, art and craft activities etc.
